How Not to Approach Industry Professionals

On this past Thanksgiving Day (Yes, of  ALL days, Thanksgiving day! ) I received an email via atlantafilmandtv.com, inquiring about our showcase.

The showcase this person was referring to is something I  am frequently asked to scout talent for Carol Shaginaw of Carol Shaginaw Talent Agency.

After expressing my confusion, the emailer became a bit snarky, even providing a screenshot of the post we shared about the showcase. I asked if they had read the post—because, if they had, they would have noticed that the showcase in question was not ours.

To my surprise, this person continued sending multiple emails, attempting to prove me wrong and insisting that I should consider him as talent for my showcase—despite me clearly stating several times that the showcase was not ours.

I say all this to emphasize: If you contact an industry professional in a field you are trying to break into, DO NOT argue with them to prove your point. People will remember your name, and more than likely, they will choose not to work with you. Ever!

So, you might be wondering—what is the correct way to approach industry professionals? Stay tuned for our next post!
